Le Président de la CAA a été invité par le Président de la Commission de l’Union Africaine, Son Excellence Alpha Omar Konaré, à prendre part à la Première Session de la Conférence des Ministres des Sports de l’Union Africaine, organisée du 4 au 8 juin à Addis Abeba (Ethiopie).
A cette occasion, M. Hamad Kalkaba Malboum a exposé aux Ministres Africains chargés des Sports, l’évolution de l’athlétisme africain en mettant en lumière les menaces et nouveaux défis à relever par les parties prenantes du premier sport olympique. Le Président a fait part des orientations prises par la CAA pour préserver et promouvoir l’athlétisme africain et a officiellement demandé à l’Union Africaine son soutien dans la mise en oeuvre de ses projets.

H.E Alpha Omar Konaré, President of African Union Commission, invited CAA President to participate to the First Session of the African Union Conference of Ministers of Sport organized from 4th to 8th June in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Mr Hamad Kalkaba Malboum highlighted in his presentation the evolution of african athletics but also the challenges and threats that all stakeholders of the first olympic sport have to face. The President presented CAA plan to preserve and promote the african athletics and officialy requested the African Union support in its future projects.

A quelques semaines des Jeux Africains, les athlètes africains ont réussi des performances prometteuses. Lors du Grand Prix d’Abuja, les 13 épreuves ont été remportées par des athlètes du continent au meilleur de leur forme à l’image du sprinter nigérian Olusoji Fasuba (10’16 sur 100 m) et du champion du monde en salle de la longueur, le Ghanéen Ignasious Gaisah avec un saut de 8.08 m.
Parrainé par le Marocain Hicham El Guerrouj, double champion olympique, le Grand Prix de Brazzaville a vu la participation de 80 athlètes. Parmi les meilleures performances : Amy M’Backé Thiam (SEN) sur 400m (50’95), Cheruiyot Wesley (KEN) sur 1 500m (3’’40’68) et Gary Robin (ETH) au 3 000 m steeple (8’15’’05).

For weeks before the All Africa Games, African athletes have achieved some very positive performances. African athletes won all the 13 events of the Abuja Grand Prix. Some of them, at the top of their game, have made some impressive performances like Nigerian sprinter Olusoji Fasuba (10.16 on 100 m) and the indoor world champion in long jump, Ignasious Gaisah from Ghana with a jump of 8.08 m.
80 athletes took part in the Brazzaville Grand Prix. Hicham El Guerrouj, Moroccan Olympic champion, was ambassador of the event. Among the best performances of the meeting: Amy M’Backé Thiam (SEN) in 400m (50.95), Cheruiyot Wesley (KEN) in 1 500m (3:40.68) and Gary Robin (ETH) in 3 000 m steeple (8:15.05).
