Les fédérations africaines, membres de la Confédération Africaine d’Athlétisme, ont renouvelé leur confiance au président sortant, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, à la suite du 20ème Congrès de l’instance continentale qui s’est tenu les 27 et 28 avril à Dakar (Sénégal) en présence de Lamine Diack, Président de l’IAAF.
A l’occasion de ce congrès, un nouveau bureau de la CAA a été élu. De nouveaux statuts ont également été adoptés à l’unanimité: le président de la CAA devient ainsi le représentant de l’Afrique au sein du Conseil de l’IAAF. De plus, le congrès a voté une motion pour la réélection de Lamine Diack à la tête de l’IAAF. Enfin, le congrès a confié l’organisation des championnats d’Afrique seniors de 2010 au Kenya et l’édition juniors de 2009 aux Seychelles.
En parrallèle du congrès, le nouveau siège de la CAA, baptisé la «Maison Lamine Diack» a été officiellement inauguré.

The fifty African federations, members of the Confederation of the African Athletics, have reelected Hamad Kalkaba Malboum as president of the CAA at the continental 20th Congress organized in Dakar (Senegal) on the 27-28 April with Mr Lamine Diack, IAAF President.
During this congress, a new CAA Council has been elected. New statutes have been amended : the CAA president will be the aera representative for Africa on the IAAF Council. The congress has unanimously adopted the resolution of the CAA Council to support Mr Lamine Diack in his quest for re-election as IAAF President at the next Congress in Osaka, Japan. Moreover, Seychelles have been selected for organizing the Junior African Athletics Championships in 2009 while Kenya will host the senior edition in 2010.
In addtion to this Congress, the new CAA headquarters called «Lamine Diack House» have been officially inaugurated.

Un symposium sur la santé de l’athlète africain, organisé par la CAA, a réuni des scientifiques de renommée internationale comme le Britannique Richard J. Robert, Prix Nobel de médecine, le Professeur Luc Montagnier et des experts de tout le continent autour de sujets majeurs : la prévention et la sensibilisation des sportifs au VIH/Sida, le dopage ou encore la nutrition des athlètes.
Ce colloque a été ouvert par Mme Viviane Wade, l’épouse du Chef de l’Etat du Sénégal, qui a transmis à la communauté scientifique et sportive un message de solidarité et d’espoir.

A symposium dedicated to the Health of African Athletes has gathered famous scientists as the British Richard J.Robert, Nobel Prize of Medicine, the French Professor Luc Montagnier and experts from all over the continent. Among the topics discussed at this seminar: prevention and increasing athletes' awareness of HIV AIDS, doping in sports and athletes nutrition.
Mrs Viviane Wade, First Lady of Senegal, has opened the symposium and passed on a solidarity and hope message to the scientific and sport communauty.

Le Meeting Grand Prix IAAF de Dakar a tenu toutes ses promesses avec des athlètes venus du monde entier se retrouver sur la piste de «Senghor» en ce début de saison et de grandes performances. Point fort de ce meeting : la championne du monde sénégalaise Amy M’Backe Thiam qui à enflammé le stade en remportant le 400m devant son public.

Dakar Grand prix IAAF Meeting has kept its promises with the participation of high athletes from all over the world and great performances. High moment of the competition : the victory of the senegalese world champion Amy M’Backe Thiam who inflamed the crowd winning the 400m in front of her public.
