La CAA prépare activement son 19ème Congrès ordinaire qui sera organisé à Dakar (Sénégal) les 27 et 28 avril. A l’occasion de ce congrès, un nouveau bureau sera élu pour un mandat de 4 ans. Une réforme des statuts de la CAA sera à l’ordre du jour avec deux propositions majeures : la présence du Président de la CAA au Conseil de l’IAAF en tant que représentant de l’Afrique et l’élection d’une 5ème Vice Présidente au Bureau exécutif.
En préambule de ce congrès, la CAA organise les 25 et 26 avril un Séminaire sur la santé de l’athlète africain avec des scientifiques de renommée internationale comme le Britannique Richard J. Robert, Prix Nobel de médecine et le Français Luc Montagnier. Parmi les thèmes abordés : la prévention et la sensibilisation des sportifs à des pandémies comme le VIH Sida, la promotion de la santé par le sport et l’éthique sportive en liaison avec la question du dopage.

The CAA is preparing its 19th Congress in Dakar (Senegal) on 27 and 28 April. A new committee will be elected for a four-year mandate. A reform of CAA legal status will be also on the agenda with two major proposals: the attendance of CAA President at IAAF Council as representative of Africa and the election of the 5th Vice President of the Executive Committee.
On 25 and 26 April, a symposium will be dedicated to the Health of African Athletes. Famous scientists like the British Richard J.Robert, Nobel Prize of medicine and the French Luc Montagnier will be attented. Among the topics discussed at this seminar: prevention and increasing athletes’ awareness of HIV AIDS, promotion of heath by sports and sport ethics regarding doping topic.

Le 28 avril, le Meeting Grand Prix IAAF de Dakar réunira les meilleurs athlètes internationaux au stade Léopold Sédar Senghor. Seul meeting panafricain labellisé IAAF, le rendez-vous de Dakar compte parmi les plus grands meetings du calendrier athlétique international (60000 spectateurs l’an dernier).

On 28 April, Dakar Grand prix IAAF Meeting will gather the best international athletes at Leopold Sédar Senghor stadium. The only panafrican meeting awarded by IAAF label is one of the most important meeting of the international athletics calendar (60,000 spectators last year).

Les athlètes africains ont largement dominé les 35èmes Championnats du Monde IAAF de Cross Country de Mombasa. Chez les hommes, Zersenay Tadesse (ERI) remporte le titre en parcourant les 12km de course en 35'50'' devançant Moses Mosop (KEN) et Bernard Kiprop Kipyego alors que Bekele, grand favori, a abandonné dans le dernier tour. Le Kenya est champion du monde par équipe devant le Maroc et l'Ouganda. Chez les femmes, la néerlandaise d’origine kenyane Lornah Kiplagat parcourt les 8km de course en 26'23'' devant ses principales rivales éthiopiennes Tirunesh Dibaba et Meselech Melkamu, qui remportent néanmoins le titre de championne du monde par équipe. Chez les juniors, le Kenya s’impose en remportant les titres individuels et par équipes démontrant ainsi que le pays voulait rester maître chez lui.

African athletes were under the spotlights at the 35th IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa. Zersenay Tadesse (ERI) won the 12km men’s race in 35:50. Moses Mosop took the silver medal and Bernard Kiprop Kipyego the bronze one whereas Bekele suddenly dropped out in the last lap. Kenya won the champion team title. Morocco and Uganda completed the podium. Kenyan-born Dutchwoman, Lornah Kiplagat won the 8km women’s race in 26:23. Her main Ethiopian challengers Tirunesh Dibaba and Meselech Melkamu followed from a far in a sprint finish. Ethiopia took the women’s senior team title. Kenya won both the individual and team junior titles demonstrating the domination of the country at home.
