Ce mercredi, à Dakar, la famille de l’athlétisme africain a rendu un hommage posthume au Secrétaire général de la Confédération Africaine d’Athlétisme, le Sénégalais Abdoul Wahab Bâ, décédé le 4 août dernier. Les membres du bureau exécutif de la CAA, conduits par leur Président Hamad Kalkaba Malboum et le Président de l'IAAF Lamine Diack, se sont rendus au domicile du défunt à l’occasion du 40ème jour de sa disparition, pour présenter leurs condoléances à sa famille.
Homme de dialogue et visionnaire du sport africain, Abdou Wahab Bâ était reconnu par tous comme l'un des plus grands dirigeants du sport sénégalais et continental. Précurseur de l’escrime africaine, il était également le président de la confédération continentale.
Au cours de cet hommage, la CAA a salué cet illustre serviteur du sport africain. "Abdoul Wahab Bâ était l’incarnation d’un certain nombre de valeurs : l’humilité, la tolérance, l’assiduité" a déclaré le président de la CAA.

On Wednesday in Dakar, the African athletics Family gave a posthumous tribute to the Secretary General of the Confederation of African Athletics, the Senegalese Abdoul Wahab Bâ, who pssed away on August 4. The Executive Board members of the CAA, led by the CAA President Hamad Kalkaba Malboum and IAAF President Lamine Diack, offered the CAA condoleances to the family of Abdoul Wahab Bâ on the occasion of the 40th day following his disappearance.
Open to dialogue and visionary of African Sport, Abdou Wahab Bâ was acknolwedged as one of the most important Senegalese and African Sport leaders. Precursor of African fencing, he was also the president of the continental confederation.
The CAA saluted Abdoul Wahab Bâ and his efforts to develop the African Sport.
"Abdoul Wahab Bâ was the incarnation of values as humility, tolerance and regularity" explained Hamad Kalkaba Malboum.

Le bureau exécutif de la Confédération Africaine d’Athlétisme vient de tenir ses travaux à Dakar. Pendant ces deux jours, l’instance dirigeante continentale s'est penchée sur l’élaboration du calendrier africain et du budget 2009 ainsi que sur l’évaluation de son plan quadriennal. La CAA a également procédé au lancement d'un grand projet de développement de l’athlétisme à l’école.
En remplacement du regretté Abdoul Wahab Bâ, c'est son ancien collaborateur Lamine Faty qui a été nommé au poste de Secrétaire Général de la CAA.

The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Athletics gathered in Dakar few days ago. During these two days, the continental governing institution focused on the elaboration of the 2009 African schedule and budget. An assessment of the four-year action plan of the Confederation was also done. Moreover, the CAA launched its ambitious project to develop athletics through the school.
Moreover, Lamine Faty, former Abdoul Wahab Bâ's colleague, has been nominated as the new Secretary General of the CAA.

Lors de l'annonce des disciplines concernées par le Jackpot de la Golden League, personne n’imaginait que la Kenyane Pamela Jelimo, une athlète alors pratiquement inconnue, gagnerait une seule course. Mais aussi inattendu soit-il, c’est bel et bien Jelimo qui a remporté le jackpot d'1 million  de dollars à l'issue des 14 semaines de bataille avec un somptueux dernier 800m au Memorial Van Damme à Bruxelles
«Je suis heureuse, j'ai réalisé mon rêve. C'est le même bonheur qu’à Pékin" a déclaré Jelimo, qui est devenue la première unique lauréate du prix depuis Tatyana Lebedeva en 2005.

When the Golden League Jackpot disciplines were designated last December, nobody expects the Kenyan Pamela Jelimo, a virtually unknown athlete, to win even a race. But when the six-meeting series concluded at the Memorial Van Damme in Brussels, it was Jelimo who survived the grueling 14-week battle to win the $1 million jackpot, the athletics biggest prize.
“I am happy, I realised my dream. This is the same happiness as in Beijing.” said the 800m runner, who became the first sole winner of the prize since Tatyana Lebedeva in 2005.
