Avec 22 médailles (12 or, 2 argent, 8 bronze), l'Afrique du Sud est arrivée largement en tête du classement des médailles des 16èmes Championnats
d'Afrique d'Athlétisme organisés à Addis-Abeba (Ethiopie) du 30 avril au 4 mai. Les Sud Africains devancent le Nigeria (19 médailles : 7 or, 7 argent, 5 bronze), l'Ethiopie
(15 médailles : 6 or, 6 argent, 3 bronze) et le Kenya (16 médailles : 5 or, 5 argent, 6 bronze).
Ces quatre pays ont nettement dominé ces championnats, remportant 30 des 44 médailles d'or.
Parmi les temps forts de ces championnats, on retiendra notamment les victoires des éthiopiens, triples vainqueurs des 10 000m hommes et femmes, mais aussi les meilleures performances mondiales de l'année signées des Botswanais Amantle Montsho au 400m féminin (49.83) et Kabelo Kgosiemang au concours masculin du saut en hauteur (2m34). Sans oublier le retour en or de la Camerounaise Françoise Mbango Etone, qui n'avait pas participé à une compétition internationale depuis son sacre aux Jeux Olympiques d'Athènes. Au delà des performances, c'est aussi l'engouement du public éthiopien qui a illuminé ces championnats particulièrement réussis. |

South Africa won the 16th African Athletics Championships coming largely at the top of the medals ranking with 22 medals (12 gold, 2 silver, 8 bronze).
Nigeria is the second country at the medals table (19 medals : 7 gold, 7 silver, 5 bronze) followed by Ethiopia (15 medals : 6 gold, 6 silver, 3 bronze)
and Kenya (16 medals : 5 gold, 5 silver, 6 bronze).
These four countries have clearly dominated the championships, capturing a combined 30 of the 44 gold medals.
Among the best sport moments of Addis Ababa : the triple sweep of Ethiopian runners in the men's and women's 10 000m, the best performances of the year set by the Botswane Amantle Montsho in the women's 400m and Kabelo Kgosiemang in the men's high jump contest. It is worthy to highlight the return with style of Françoise Mbango Etone from Cameroon who competed in her first international championship since her gold medal in the 2004 Olympics. Besides, the amazing ethiopian audience contributed strongly to the success of these championships. |

A la veille des 16èmes Championnats d'Afrique d'Athlétisme, la CAA a célèbré les plus grands athlètes de ces 50 dernières années au cours d'un Gala organisé en présence de plus de
350 athlètes, dirigeants et personnalités du Mouvement sportif.
Le Premier Ministre Ethiopien, le Président de la Commission de l'Union Africaine ainsi que le Président de l'IAAF et celui de la CAA ont honoré de leur présence
cette grande soirée qui a sacré 40 champions au Panthéon de l'athlétisme africain.
Un peu plus tôt dans la journée, un symposium sur le thème "Le sport comme facteur de paix et d'intégration en Afrique et l'athlétisme pour la paix" s'est déroulé au siège de l'Union Africaine.
En parallèle des Championnats, un séminaire organisé, en collaboration avec la CONFEJES et avec l’appui du Ministère Français des Affaires Etrangères et Européennes, s'est tenu sur le thème "Des centres régionaux espoirs aux centres de haut niveau en passant par la détection, la sélection et le suivi des jeunes talents en athlétisme". Enfin, notons qu'à l'occasion de ces Championnats, la CAA a annoncé la sortie de son livre intitulé "Health and Sports in Africa, A Challenge for Development" qui fait suite au symposium organisé l'an passé à Dakar sur la santé de l'athlète africain. |

The day before the 16th Athletics African Championships in Athletics, the CAA organized a Gala to award the greatest african athletes of the past 50 years.
Around 350 athletes, officials and personnalities of Sports Movement attended to this event. The Ethiopian Prime Minister, the President of the African Union Commission as the
IAAF President and the CAA President honored the Gala with their presence. 40 champions were awarded and featured on the African Hall of Fame.
Earlier, an International Symposium on the theme "Sport as a factor of peace and integration in Africa and Athletics for peace" gathered the African athletics family in the African Union headquarters. Moreover, a seminar about the detection of new talents, the regional training centers and the high performance training centers was organized in collaboration with the CONFEJES and the Ministry of French Foreign and European Affairs. Besides, the CAA announced the release of its book entitled "Health and Sports in Africa, A Challenge for Development". This release follows up the symposium organized last year in Dakar about the health of the african athlete. |
