Du 30 avril au 4 mai, les athlètes africains ont rendez-vous sur la piste du stade d’Addis-Abeba (Ethiopie) à l’occasion des 16èmes championnats d’Afrique d’Athlétisme qui s’annoncent grandioses. A ce jour, 41 pays ont confirmé leur participation et il est désormais établi que cet évènement continental verra un record de participation. Les plus grandes stars comme Olusoji Fasuba, recordman d’Afrique du 100m et champion du monde du 60m en salle, ont confirmé leur présence.
Pour rappel, ces championnats sont qualificatifs pour les prochains championnats du monde. Ils constituent également une opportunité pour les athlètes de réussir les minimas qualificatifs pour les Jeux Olympiques de Pékin.

From April 30 to May 4, the greatest African athletes will compete in Addis Ababa Stadium (Ethiopia) during the 16th African Athletics Championships. So far, 41 countries have confirmed their participation and it is expected that this continental sporting event makes a record number of participants. Stars as Nigeria’s African 100m record holder and world indoor 60m champion Olusoji Fasuba will compete in Addis.
For reminder, these African Championships are now qualifiers for the next World Championships. They also provide an opportunity for the continent’s athletes to chase the Olympic qualifying standard for Beijing.

En marge des championnats, la CAA célèbrera les plus grands athlètes des 50 dernières années admis au Panthéon de l’athlétisme africain. Ces anciennes gloires de l’athlétisme continental seront récompensées au cours d’un Gala organisé le 29 avril. Une exposition de photos retraçant l’histoire de l’athlétisme africain sera également présentée.
La veille, la CAA tiendra la réunion de son Conseil ainsi qu’un symposium international sur le thème «Le sport comme facteur de paix et d’intègration en Afrique».
Quant aux journées des 1er et 2 mai, elles seront consacrées à la réunion de la commission des athlètes et à celle de la commission technique de la CAA dont les thèmes seront le développement de l’athlétisme à l’école et son introduction dans les milieux scolaires en Afrique ainsi que l’harmonisation du calendrier de la CAA.

On the sidelines of 16th African Athletics Championships, the CAA will celebrate the greatest athletes of the past 50 years admitted to the Pantheon of athletics in Africa. These ancient glories of African athletics will be awarded during a Gala on April 29. A photo exhibition on the history of the African athletics will also be presented.
Previously, the CAA will have gathered on April 28 its Board and organized an International Symposium on the theme «Sport as a factor of peace and integration in Africa».
The days of May 1 and 2 will be devoted to the meetings of the CAA Athletes’ Commission and of the CAA Technical Commission. The themes discussed will be about the development of athletics in the schools and its introduction in schools in Africa but as well the harmonization of the calendar of the Confederation.
