2008 s'annonce une année majeure pour l'athlétisme africain avec la tenue des 16èmes Championnats d'Afrique du 30 avril au 4 mai à Addis-Abeba (Ethiopie) et la participation des meilleurs athlètes du continent aux XXIXe Jeux Olympiques de Pékin (Chine) du 16 au 24 août.
Au-delà des grands évènements, cette nouvelle année est marquée par la création du circuit de l'Africa Athletics Tour qui consiste au regroupement des épreuves phares de l'athlétisme africain en quatre catégories : Diamant, Or, Argent et Bronze. Cette organisation permettra de mieux valoriser les temps forts de l'athlétisme continental et les performances des athlètes tout en offrant aux sponsors potentiels une meilleure visibilité autour d'un programme structuré par la Confédération Africaine d'Athlétisme.

This new year will be a major one for african athletics : organisation of the 16th African Championships from 30 April to 4 May in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and the participation of the best athletes of the continent to the XXIX Olympic Games in Beijing (China) from 16 to 24 August.
Beyond these major events, 2008 marks the creation of a circuit named Africa Athletics Tour that consists in grouping athletics major events in four categories: Diamond, Golden, Silver and Bronze. It is all about a new organisation that will enable to better valorise african athletics events as well as the achievements of continental champions. It will give also to potential sponsors more visibility from an interesting programme elaborated by the Confederation of African Athletics.

Le 1er janvier, l'athlète Lucas Sang, membre de l'équipe kényane du relais 4x400m aux Jeux Olympiques de Séoul en 1988, a été tué à Eldoret suite aux violences qui ont éclaté au Kenya dans le cadre des élections présidentielles. Sang, 45 ans, a été attaqué et tué alors qu'il rentrait à son domicile.
Depuis sa retraite sportive, Sang s'était reconverti avec succès dans l'exploitation agricole tout en restant impliqué dans l'athlétisme. Il avait été élu trésorier de l'Association Nationale des Olympiens Kenyans, une position qu'il a occupée jusqu'à sa mort.
La CAA s'associe à la douleur de l'athlétisme kenyan et rend hommage à cet athlète qui, par son talent et son implication, a oeuvré toute sa vie pour l'athlétisme kenyan et africain.

On January 1st, Lucas Sang, a member of the Kenyan 4x400m Relay squad at the 1988 Olympics, was killed in his hometown of Eldoret when violence spread throughout the country in the wake of presidential elections in Kenya. Sang, 45, was attacked and killed while walking home.
After his retirement as an athlete, Sang become a successful farmer in Eldoret, but remained involved in athletics until his untimely death. Sang was elected treasurer of the National Association of Kenyan Olympiads, a position he held until his death.
CAA joins Kenyan Athletics in mourning Lucas Sang and notes the close support he gave the athletics fraternity in Kenya and Africa. He will be great remembered for his talent and his full involvement in athletics.
